Here’s part 1 of our interview  with Cliff Moser

Chief Innovation Officer: How is globalization impacting the profession?

Cliff Moser: One of the most talked about, the outsourcing of drafting services, has been occurring for some time now, but has not taken off as expected. Some US firms utilize their overseas offices to transfer the workload of construction documentation to less expensive operations, but while the documentation of construction requirements is labor intensive, there is a limit of what work product can be shifted to foreign drafters because of the technical nature of individual project requirements. Our firm utilizes outsourcing organizations for renderings, 3-d animation, and Quality Control auditing reviews. This latter activity has proven to be innovative, as it helps assure quality and coordination of the documents by resourcing another set of eyes to review the documents and not only to compare the drawings to a checklist, but to outline areas that may need more information, such as elevation details, roof penetrations, and interior elevation studies.
